Insertion Force Measurement System

To monitor the the force applied to insert a bush or a bearing into its housing.

Another first from WS&I, the insertion force measurement system is intelligent system which gives accurate reading of force with graphical representation being applied to insert a bush  (rubber or metallic) or bearing into its housing.

This system is very useful in maintaining quality for these type of components where a bush or bearing is inserted into its housing. The housing is generally machined part and may have irregularities. While the bush or bearing is being insert, it may take more than required force to insert because of lower ID of the part or may take less than required force because of higher ID or the part. Also, there may be higher ID in initial stage taking less force and lower ID at later stage will take higher force and vice versa. Our system displays the actual load used to fully insert the bush or bearing with graphical representation so that one can see the load applied at each level while the bush/bearing was being inserted.

The system can be installed onto any existing hydraulic or manual press and is load cell based. The high precision load cell is mounted into the press and the load applied to insert the bush or bearing is directly transferred to the load cell. The signal of the load cell is processed by high speed 24 bit sigma – delta ADC of the digital controller and the data is sent to the computer which does rest of the process to process the weight data and ascertain the “ACCEPTED” or “REJECTED” signal as per the range fed into the system by the user. Along with the accepted or rejected decision, the system also generates a graph of the load applied to monitor the actual load applied along with time in graphical manner. The graph can be saved or exported to another device or printed for future use.

The system also incorporated high quality proximity sensors. The digital weight controller starts sending the data to the computer once the press has started applying the load onto the bush or bearing. This is done by the proximity sensor. As soon as the arm or the press comes near the proximity sensor, the controller sends the data to the computer and when the pressing action is complete, another arm comes near proximity sensor and the data being sent to the computer is stopped and then the computer analyse the data it has received from the controller.

The biggest advantage of this system is this that it does not record the peak values generated by the load cell when the bush or bearing is fully insert and the total pressing force is applied onto the load cell hence generating the peak value way beyond the actual peak force the bush or bearing has used. This way, only the force applied during pressing of bush or bearing is recorded and other readings are ignored making the system very useful and accurate for these type of applications.

The software is windows based and can be customised as per user requirements for bulk buyers. It lets you create a list of components to be tested along with the permissible error range. Username, shifts and accepted and rejected counts are also available in report  format.
